When you think of delicate detail and soft, graceful tattooing, Amy Lowdon (@amylowdontattoo) comes to mind for us. Based in the creative hub of Brighton, Amy has built a name for herself through her fineline tattoos, warm personality, and dreamy studio space - Studio L'amour.
In this artist spotlight, Amy shares how her early days doing henna shaped her signature style, what inspired her to open a studio that feels like home, and how Get Ink helps her keep her diary calm, organised, and stress-free (even when books for 2026 are already in demand).
Amy's Story (in her own words)
What drew you to soft, fineline tattoos and how did it become your thing?
It's so funny because when I did my apprenticeship, I was taught how to do everything - and I still tattoo trad and blackwork - but before I was a tattoo artist, I actually did henna professionally.
I loved the fact it was all hand-drawn, you could have so much creative freedom with such a small area of the body, and I loved trying to fit in as many little details and things you wouldn't see straight away until you looked closer.
I think doing henna and it being so precise, when I started tattooing and actually fell into a style I loved, it was fineline π₯Ή
Where are you based now and how long have you been tattooing?
I'm based in Brighton at my little private studio! I've been tattooing now for almost five years, which feels crazy because it still feels like it's only been two weeks π
You've recently opened your own studio, Studio L'amour - what inspired you to create that space and how would you describe the vibe there?
I never actually thought I'd ever own a studio or open my own space, as I love working around different artists and meeting new people. But last year, the studio I was working at was put under new management, and I decided I wanted to branch out and create a different kind of studio experience.
When I opened my space, it sounds silly but I wanted to make a studio that felt like you were walking into your living room or your home - that's where people are most comfortable and feel most themselves. I have the comfiest sofa (clients tell me nearly every day), a mini fridge full of free drinks for all my clients, and art on the walls that supports not only other tattoo artists but also small independent artists in Brighton. My love for art is in the name, Studio L'amour - a space that curates and supports the love for art and artists π
What do you enjoy the most about living in Brighton?
I'm not actually from Brighton - I'm from Surrey! I moved here three years ago and I couldn't be more in love with the area.
When I was younger, it was always my dream to live and work in Brighton; the culture here, the art, the kindness and acceptance of the community is what makes me love it most.
I love walking down a random road and seeing art everywhere - it's so inspiring for an artist anyway. The people are so kind, and you can dress, look, and be whoever you want and no one bats an eye. It's just lovely π₯Ή
How do you usually spend your time when you're not tattooing?
I have two sons - my cats π Theon and Beans - and they take up most of my life! But I also just love cycling around Brighton, going to the gym, spending time with my besties, and being artistic outside of work as well.
Your diary is famously in demand π«Άπ» How do you approach opening your books, and what helps you stay organised when managing so many client enquiries?
I've found that after doing admin for years now, I like to open my books three to four months at a time, usually two to three months before the period I'm booking for. So for example, I'm opening my books at the end of this month (October) for 2026, which will cover January to March!
It's sometimes hard because who knows what they're doing in six months' time, but I usually take birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays off before I think about opening my books. Then I give myself two weekends free each month in case any other plans come up.
Once a form has come through, I give potential clients 24β48 hours to get back to me to keep my books running smoothly. I understand people work or are busy, so if they let me know, I usually hold the date longer for them to secure it more comfortably too.
I also still use a physical diary (in case my phone breaks, etc.) alongside my Get Ink calendar!
What's your favourite feature on Get Ink, and how has it helped with managing clients and bookings?
I literally couldn't praise Get Ink more. I advise other tattooists to use you guys, and I've had so many clients compliment how easy and accessible the app is. The form is so simple, and messaging clients is done in seconds instead of hours.
I love that you can also see when clients have seen your offers, so if they have 24β48 hours to get back to you and don't, you can just offer the slot elsewhere - and if clients are really interested, they can message you whenever they want through the app. Everything just feels less pressured, less stressful, and it's the best thing ever.
How has using a booking system changed things for you, both inside and outside the studio?
Using a booking system is the best - it keeps everything organised and all in one place so you don't have to go from Instagram to email to TikTok, etc.!
It's also been so great for getting rid of time wasters. Before, I'd spend so much time going through DMs and getting my hopes up for people who'd then leave me on read. I always felt like I spent more time doing admin than tattooing!
Outside of work, it's just so helpful because I can live my life normally.
It sounds odd to people who aren't tattooists, but our job never really stops - I work from the second I wake up to the second I go to bed, from doing admin to drawing designs to replying to clients. But with Get Ink, I don't have that anymore.
I can leave work at work, and I have specific days I focus on admin now instead of every single day, which is a breath of fresh air π€©
What's one piece of advice you'd give clients looking to book with you?
My advice would be to be yourself and be honest! Sounds silly at first, but I find I can book someone in easier if they tell me everything I need to know about them and what they want.
Tattooists are people too and we can't read minds; it's hard to understand what someone wants tattoo-wise if they don't give us enough information. Tell us everything you're thinking about for your tattoo so we can create the perfect design for you βοΈ
Goals for 2026?
I actually just applied to work my first tattoo convention, which I'm very excited about and think will be a great step in my career! I also want to upgrade my studio and start getting regular guests and residents in π₯Ή
