Question 1

Can I use numbing cream?

Accepted Answer

Please ask me BEFORE using any numbing cream! Do not apply it before your appointment without checking with me first, as certain products may not be suitable for your tattoo or skin.

Numbing cream can be used and may be recommended for larger or full-body pieces where longer sessions are required.

If numbing cream is appropriate, please use the recommended TKTX numbing cream and patch test it at home a few days before your appointment to make sure you don’t have an allergic or adverse reaction.

Please consider beforehand whether you feel numbing cream will be needed, and message me to discuss it before your appointment.

Question 2

How do I look after my tattoo?

Accepted Answer

Once your tattoo is complete, I’ll gently clean the area and apply Second Skin, a transparent protective film that can usually be left on for 2–3 days. This helps protect your fresh tattoo while it begins to heal and reduces exposure to bacteria, friction and excessive scabbing.

If you’d prefer not to use Second Skin, cling film is also available.

Once the covering is removed, gently wash your tattoo using lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Pat dry with clean kitchen roll or a fresh towel — don’t rub.

Once the skin is completely dry, apply a very thin layer of Cocoa Butter to keep the area moisturised. Less is more — your tattoo should never feel overly greasy or suffocated.

I’ll go through the full aftercare process with you before you leave your appointment, so you know exactly how to care for your tattoo throughout the healing process.

Question 3

Can I book in for multiple sessions?

Accepted Answer

Looking to book something a little bigger? I also take on large-scale projects, including back pieces, full stomach pieces and full sleeve designs.

Larger tattoos will usually require multiple sessions, so it can be difficult to give an exact price or number of appointments from the beginning. This will depend on the size and complexity of the piece, how well you sit during longer sessions, and a number of other factors.

For larger projects, I never want to rush the process just to work within a set timeframe. I like to take my time with the design, placement and tattooing itself to make sure every detail is as precise and considered as possible. Your piece will take as long as it needs to be done properly.

Numbing cream can be used for larger-scale work, but this must be discussed with me and planned in advance of your appointment.

Question 4

What should I bring to my appointment?

Accepted Answer

Tattoo appointments can be long, so come prepared and make yourself comfortable! I recommend bringing:

☆ Water + a sugary drink — staying hydrated and having some sugar on hand can be a lifesaver during longer sessions.
☆ Snacks or sweets — especially something you can easily eat during breaks.
☆ Headphones — feel free to listen to music, podcasts, watch Netflix etc.
☆ A book, iPad or Nintendo DS — whatever helps keep you entertained!
☆ Something comfy to wear — ideally something that gives easy access to the area being tattooed and that you don’t mind getting ink on.

Most importantly, eat a proper meal before your appointment and get a good night’s sleep.
