Does getting a tattoo hurt?

Everyone experiences pain differently, but most describe it as a tolerable discomfort. At Fox and Thistle, we focus on creating a calm, supportive space. We talk you through the process, check in regularly during your session, and take breaks as needed. We even provide a selection of client snacks and refreshments! Your comfort is our priority. If you have any specific concerns, please let your artist know!

How do I know if the design is right for me?

Accepted Answer

It's important to give our artists as much reference images and information upon booking.

We also offer in depth design consultations either through the Get Ink chat system, or in person if it's thought needed, where you can share your ideas, inspirations, and vision. Our artists take the time to understand your design ideas and offer custom suggestions that will work with their individual style.

We aim to send the design over at least a few days prior to your tattoo. You’ll never be rushed as we work with you until you feel completely confident in the final design.

What should I do to prepare for my tattoo appointment?

Accepted Answer

Come to your appointment well-rested, hydrated, and with a good meal beforehand.
 Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the tattoo area. 
It also helps if you moisturise and exfoliate the area for a week prior to the appointment m 
We'll send you a pre-appointment guide once your tattoo is booked, with handy tips, and we are always happy to answer any questions you have before the day. You’re never alone in the process.

I've become unwell, should I reschedule my tattoo appointment?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you're feeling unwell, especially with symptoms like a cold, flu, stomach bug, or any general sickness, it's best to reschedule your tattoo appointment.

Getting tattooed puts strain on your immune system, so being in good health is really important for your body to heal properly and avoid complications. Attending your appointment while sick can make the experience more difficult for you and may affect the outcome of your tattoo.

Additionally, we ask that you consider the health of your artist and others in the studio. Coming in while unwell increases the risk of spreading illness, which can impact everyone’s schedule including future appointments.

Please contact your artist as soon as possible to let them know and to arrange a new date. We appreciate your honesty and understanding, and we’ll always do our best to accommodate you. Your health, and ours, comes first.

Can I bring someone to my tattoo appointment?

Accepted Answer

You’re more than welcome to bring a friend for support. We have a large cozy, relaxed seating area within our reception where we can accommodate guests to wait. We believe comfort comes not just from environment, but from the people you share it with.

If you wish to bring a client into the tattoo rooms themselves, please discuss this with your individual artist prior, as they may be able to accommodate depending on need, as space is restricted in the tattoo rooms themselves.

Is your studio clean and safe?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Our tattoo studio meets or exceed all health and safety regulations, and maintain a sanitary studio environment. We regularly update our cross-contamination and blood borne-pathogen training to ensure the best for clients. We walk you through our hygiene process during the tattoo so you feel fully reassured and informed. Our studio comprises of a large reception area, with two private artists studio rooms, where privacy and comfort are our priority

I'm nervous, how do you help first timers?

We totally understand! We’ve built an environment that’s warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental. We aim to make those first tattoo, or any tattoo nerves at ease. Our artists are friendly and approachable, and we always take time to explain everything step by step. Ensure to read the pre-tattoo information to better prepare for your appointment. You’re in safe, experienced hands.

How long will my tattoo take?

Accepted Answer

It varies! 
The size and complexity of the design can have a huge impact on timescale.  We aim give you an accurate estimate during your consultation/booking, however this can change due to multiple factors, session length, tolerance, skin composition for example. Whether it’s a quick session or a longer sitting, we pace everything to suit your comfort level, offering breaks and support throughout.

How do I care for my new tattoo?

Accepted Answer

At Fox and Thistle, you'll receive a clear aftercare guide and we’ll walk you through it verbally before you leave, taking time to explain everything in depth.

We provide a non adhesive, breathable dressing called Tattoo Armour, to protect your tattoo once completed.

We also provide a healing FAQ segment, in case you forget to ask a certain something! We’re always available for questions, because we care about the long-term quality of your tattoo and your comfort.

Question 10

What if I change my mind on the design before the appointment?

Accepted Answer

This sometimes happens!
We’re flexible and want you to love your tattoo. All we ask is to let us know as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to adjust the design. Our process is collaborative, and we never proceed with anything unless you’re 100% sure.

If a full design change is required, there may be a need for postponement in certain circumstances, to be able to create the best design for you.
